I’m a sucker for a B-Movie, and this week I got to experience a nice throwback to one. The Planet of Dinosaurs has a worthy successor, of course we here on the Third Planet from the Black Hole, don’t have to worry about prehistoric problems… we have a giant hole devouring the solar system.
Hi, I’m Wile E. Young, and I got to see a pretty good dinosaur movie this week.
Getting started with the writing updates this week. I worked on my story for the double feature novella with Wesley Southard. This has been an interesting endeavor as it contains no supernatural elements.
But it might be one of the darkest and most gut wrenching things I’ve ever written. It deals with some heavy issues, and real world problems that scare me. I’m hoping it will do the same for all of you.
Besides that, I worked on a few short stories, and a novel that I intend to pitch at StokerCon. Cross your fingers.
There was some behind the scenes movement on both my collection and For A Few Souls More. The copies of my collection for AuthorCon have been ordered, planning on a wide release sometime after Souls which is slated for release in April.
So, if you want a copy of my collection, and don’t want to wait two months or more, then come to AuthorCon!
Speaking of that behind the scenes movement. I’ve been lobbying hard to get advance copies of Souls to bring with me to AuthorCon. I can’t say for sure if I’ll have them yet, but I’ve had promises that I will.
Of course, in this business, unless the contract is signed or the copies are in your hand… promises are just that.
My wife and I went and saw the movie 65 today starring Adam Driver.
The movie was fun, not one that I would be aching to watch again anytime soon unless it was with a group of friends, but fun nonetheless. The premise is pretty simple and is a throwback to the Planet of the Dinosaurs film I mentioned earlier: Guy crash-lands on prehistoric earth, there are dinosaurs, hilarity ensues.
If you don’t want SPOILERS, then skip this section.
The dinosaur designs are interesting, and there are some very tense parts, but I do feel like the movie wasted some of its potential. There were so many potential victims to showcase the lethality of the animals, but this ultimately goes nowhere. The movie feels at times more like a particularly intense adventure film, and this isn’t a bad thing per say, but I would have liked to see more dinosaurs eating people.
I’m a simple man that way.
At the end of the day, I’d say go see it, but keep your expectations low.
7 fossils of 10.
This week’s segment of WHAT BOSS IS CURRENTLY USING ME AS DENTAL FLOSS features this thing:
It’s called a Death Rite Bird, it has ridiculous tracking and I’m currently on attempt #18 to try and kill it. Last week’s Red Wolf of Radagon only took me 5 tries. I ventured up a mountain filled with angry homicidal hobbits, and ended up finding this thing.
Now I’ve killed 4 or 5 of these death chickens already, but this one seems tougher. It summons black ghost flame to fry me with, and it hones in on me ridiculously well.
Hopefully next week I’m onto a new boss.
What I’m Reading: I was so busy this week I actually didn’t have time to read much other than some previews from friend’s work.
What I’m Watching: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
What I’m Listening To: The sound byte from Hozier’s new song. Comes out in a few days.
That’s it for the week, tune in next week as we invade the Planet of the Apes… a.k.a. Earth.
